In antiquity, timers as we know them today didn't exist. Instead, people would create incense timers by moulding incense powder into various shapes. After removing the mould, a distinct pattern or shape would remain on the base powder. As the incense powder burned from the beginning, it followed a continuous route. The completion of the burning process marked the passage of a certain amount of time. Different shapes would last for varying durations.
Our ancestors referred to these devices as "incense timers". It's quite fascinating, isn't it?
